Must-Have Beauty Products Every Dancer Should Own

Being a dancer requires a lot of practice, emotion and expression. The most important part of your performance is getting the steps and routine right, but there are other components that can complement your performance and make it even better. This includes your presentation and looks. Besides your clothes and costumes, your hair and face should look amazing and give you an elegant look that matches your dancing act and personality. That’s why you should have essential beauty products such as makeup, lashes and hair accessories.

Presentation during the performance is very important. If you do your makeup well, it’ll greatly contribute to your confidence and the atmosphere during the performance. When you have a flawless face, you can also get an advantage over the others in auditions as well. So, keeping your makeup on point is crucial. Dancers use many products to make this happen.

Applying a serum will hydrate the skin and give you a good base for the other products. It prepares the skin for an effortless application. Don’t skip the primer. It adds a smooth base for the foundation, one of the most important and must-have beauty accessories. The primer keeps the makeup in one place as long as possible.

The foundation should give you even, full-face coverage and blemishes and concealers are perfect ways of covering pimples, discolourations, scars, dark circles, red patches and blemishes. Eyeshadows are used to accentuate your eyes. They’re made to draw attention to them and make a big impact. Make sure you get several palettes of different tones, so you’ll be ready for any type of performance.

A contour palette will give you a facial structure and highlight the best parts of your face. It’ll give you a definition of your neck, jaw, collarbone and cheeks. The finishing powder will blend everything together and make you radiant and glowing. You should have gel eyeliners in, at least, black and white. You can add other colours as well.

The eyebrow pencil will give your eyes definition and strengthen your eyebrow game. Mascara is there to top it all off by adding volume and lusciousness. Finish it all with a statement lipstick or lipliner pencil. Doing the perfect makeup requires practice. Don’t get overwhelmed if you don’t get it right the first time, no one does. Sometimes stage makeup will be heavier hat casual makeup, but it’ll contribute a ton to your performance and confidence.

A Set of Brushes

A good set of brushes is a must if you want to have an on-point makeup. Always choose a high-quality set that won’t leave streaks when applying the product. This will make your job harder and more time-consuming. The brushes don’t have to be extra expensive. The price is not always a good indicator of quality.

Always feel the bristles. Make sure they don’t feel ragged or frayed. Touch them and if they lose a lot of hair don’t even think about buying them. You’ll end up replacing them in a week. The base should hold them tightly and not wobble or detach from the handle. Choose natural fibres that bend enough for application but are not so stiff as to not catch the product.

Each brush has its purpose. Some are for blending the foundation, some are meant for applying eyeshadow and eyeliner, and others are good for your eyebrows and your lips. A good brush will feel balanced in your hand and good on your skin. Try out different brands because they all have distinctive features, shapes and sizes. See which one fits you the best.

If you want your brushes to last longer, you’ll need to take good care of them. Regular cleaning and maintenance will save you from spending money each month. This is not a complicated thing. You can simply wash them in mild water and a little liquid soap. Rinse them well and then lay them down on a towel. It’s important to let them air dry. This way the bristles won’t get damaged from rubbing them on the towel.

A Good Pair of False Eyelashes

Ladies, false eyelashes just make the makeup on your face pop. They accentuate the shades, your eye shape and give you a more luscious look. They’re inexpensive beauty accessories that will level up your look and make you feel amazing. But we all have different eye shapes, so this is not a one-fits-them-all thing. You need to choose carefully.

If you have almond eyes you should go for narrow lashes that are a bit pointed at the ends and wider at the centre. This would be a preference, but you can handle any lash with this eye shape. Round eyes are visually bigger, and the eye whites are more visible. To balance out the proportions, go for a wispy pair of lashes that add length and give you a cat-eye shape.

It used to be hard to find lashes for hooded eyes. The eyelid crease isn’t visible because of the extra skin above it. The main thing is to find lashes that will add a visual openness to your eyes. Shorter, natural-looking lashes that are longer in the centre are the perfect choice. They’ll also add depth. Monolid eyes require lashes that have crisscross layers. And upturned eyes look amazing with fox or cat-style lashes.

Get a Compact Mirror

You can’t do your makeup or put on your lashes without a mirror. You don’t have to buy a huge floor-to-ceiling one (although having it won’t be a bad thing). You can go for a smaller mirror with installed LED lights. These models are great for dancers because they’re lightweight, foldable and very compact. They have LED lights that are touch activated and often have different levels of brightness.

Some of them even have their own box that has additional storage space for your beauty products. They’re also adjustable in height and can move in each direction giving you a good look on each side of your face. All in all, a smaller mirror is a great investment that will make your makeup routine easier no matter where you are.

Equip With Body Jewels

Body jewels are a great way to accessorise your outfit and create a more spectacular look. They come in many shapes, sizes and colours and you’ll find something to complement each costume. They’re light reflective and will make you shine on the stage. These jewels are self-adhesive and easy to apply. Simply follow the pattern the manufacturer created or create one on your own. You can apply them on your face, or your body and they’ll stay there for the whole performance.
